Adjunct Professor of Practice

Research Interests:
Bioprocess Engineering (Fermentation/ Protein refolding/ Vaccine delivery and development, Nanotechnology, Regenerative Medicine and Immunoengineering)

Bio

Dr. Panda joined DBEB in December 2025 as an Adjunct Professor of Practice. He is currently Associate Director, Panacea Biotec Ltd, New Delhi. Previously he served as Director, NII, and Director (additional charge, CIAB and NABI).
He reported the first high cell density recombinant fermentation from India (1995). He reported the highest amount of recombinant protein expression among the earliest Indian studies (1999). Novel protein refolding methods developed by him have been accepted worldwide for high throughput recovery of bioactive protein from inclusion bodies of E. coli (2005, 2020). Because of his contribution on applications of chemical engineering principles to biological processes, he was awarded the Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize from the Society for Biotechnology, Japan, for the year 2004. He also developed innovative polymeric particles-based delivery system for generation of memory antibody response from single doses (2009) and the generation of memory antibody response against carbohydrate antigens without conjugating them to a carrier protein (2014). He has the credentials of generating highest number of IPRs while working at National Institute of Immunology. He has transferred technology for large scale production of therapeutic protein to Industry. He has been awarded as the Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (Cambridge) - 2020.
