Master of Technology - M.Tech. in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology

The Department offers a 2-year full time M.Tech. program in Biomolecular and Bioprocess Engineering. The program aims to equip students with theoretical knowledge and experimental skills necessary to make them independent researchers equipped to handle modern biotechnology. The M. Tech program has two-thirds of the credits for the course work and one-third for thesis component.

Flexibility of movement

IIT Delhi has adopted major changes in its rules and regulations to enable easy mobility of students from M. Tech to Ph.D. program. With the changes, it is now possible for a student to join M.Tech at IIT Delhi and then they can apply for change to a PhD program. if they meet the Institute criteria of CGPA 8.0 and above in the first semester. In this process they save considerable amount of time to complete Ph.D.

Eligibility for the M.Tech. program

B.Tech. or B.E. or M.Sc. degree holders of a particular discipline with a valid GATE score are eligible for admission.

Program duration and Course structure

The minimum duration of M. Tech program is 4 semesters (24 months) for full time.

Admission schedule

Normally, M. Tech/Ph.D. programs are advertised in the month of March each year in the Employment news as well as in leading newspapers and admissions are carried out in the month of May. The programs are also advertised in the month of October followed by admissions in December. Admission to the M. Tech program is normally made on the basis of an interview of eligible candidates conducted by the Department through its Department Research Committee (DRC). The DRC may decide to conduct a written test as well to screen the candidates.

Financial Assistance

A scheme for the award of Teaching/Research Assistantship for providing financial assistance to the students exists. In terms of this scheme, those non-sponsored students who are admitted on full-time basis to M.Tech. programs are considered for the award of Teaching/Research Assistantship, under which they will be paid Rs.12,400/- per month and would be required to provide assistance of 8 hours/week to the Department.
